Hi 🙂 hailing all the way from Denmark. I´m getting into portrait drawing and I was hoping to learn how to draw, rotate and slice a 2 point perspective sphere from all angles (as it is the basis of sketching the head from all angles). I know I can just try and eye ball it but I´m a chronic overthinker and I want to know how to do it right haha 😉
Hi Stefan,
I like your expression of a Chronic overthinker.
You can find multiple videos talking about spheres in the blog.
I share below with you 2 methods.
The simple one:

The more advance with XYZ axis:

Happy sphere sketching!

Hello I am from Montreal Canada, I’ve been sketching on and off for a while but more often these days as my kids have gone away now. I’m seeing that sketching for longer periods of time, my shoulder begins to get soar after while so I was looking for the ergonomically correct way to position myself and came across your site. Also I will take a look at your book I’m sure I’ll learn something. Thank you
Hi Daniel,
Yah, these days, it is better to rest if you feel any pain from your injury – so you would heal faster.
You are right, a body posture will help you long run to draw longer sessions.
Have you seen this article about the shoulder postion?
https://www.thedesignsketchbook.com/how-to-correct-your-curved-lines
It is about one of my students, Jasper who was drawing with a shoulder positioned too high.
Whenever he tried to draw straight lines, they appeared curvy.
To fix this, he just needs to fix his desk and chair height.
For example, I liked my desk and chair set up by IKEA

Hope it helps!
Cheers,

Hello! I’ve always loved to draw, and after observing how a lot of the artists I admire, I realized how industrial design made them much more skillful in their works.
This encouraged me to get back into doing the basics and really understanding 3D forms.
I hope to be able to improve a lot by learning from here, thank you!
