Hello, Chou-Tac! My name is Agustina. I’m 21 yo and I’m from Argentina. I’m studying software engineering. I’m not a design student but I really want to learn to draw. I really do enjoy it but I’m stuck on my very basic and limited comfort zone and I want to get out of it. I’m a very metodic person and very self-critic so I find it really hard to just sketch whatever it’s in front on me. I’m always thinking: “but where do I begin?” “It’s okay like this?” “It doesn’t seem right”, and even if I do take time to practise I don’t really see improvements. BUT I’m really positive about your guide and I want to say THANK YOU 🙂 really. It seems like a good start for begginers like me. Sorry if my English isn’t right and thank you again!! 😀

Yeah at start, we tend to try to do perfect things, and we draw what is visible. The way a designer observe the world is not the same as most people. In product design, we prefer to draw using simple geometry and “see through” things.
I tell you more in this on this video tutorial. It’s very basic, but essential for a good start 🙂

Hey there! I’m Jagruit from India. I currently stepped into the world of Independent video game development and found that it is very beneficial to plan out and conceptualize things before the development process begins. I have been good at sketching on paper, but that is the case only when I replicate stuff by seeing. I get a good perception just by that.
However, I fail when trying to draw something from my imagination. I just don’t produce the precise results, and I am not good with straight lines and curves in freehand. Furthermore, this amplifies when I try to draw stuff on Autodesk Sketchbook using my graphics tablet. I need to master this because I want to step into the digital realm of artworks and it’ll be beneficial if I create digital concepts for the video games.
I came across a tip relating to Autodesk sketchbook about setting up a high resolution file in Sketchbook from the start, and as I navigated around this site, I liked the tips and articles that you shared. So I decided to get your book to learn more and improve my skills and signed up 🙂

The issue you face about being able to reproduce and not able to create from imagination is a very common situation. So don’t worry. The techniques are simply different.

I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. I work for an aviation company as a production planner. I developed a passion for line art when I purchased my first comic book at the age of six. I drew passionately every day but I was extremely self-critical (my drawings never looked exactly like the characters in my comic books) and by the age of 13 I gave it up, deciding that art was for people with innate talent – an assumption believed by many even to this day. Decades later I find that my love for drawing is as strong as ever and though I don’t presume to make a career out of it I’ve decided that I will learn this elusive craft.
Thanks to the internet and especially people like yourself who unselfishly share their knowledge I feel for the first time that it is possible to learn how to draw. What I very much like about your videos is the spontaneity and the quality of your lines, not to mention the speed in which you draw. Your video on sharpening your sense of proportion and how to draw a cup – one of your earlier videos – I found very helpful. I understand that the focus is more on industrial design but I really enjoy your character sketches and sketching on location.
There, you now know a little about myself. I look forward in receiving the lessons and if I can get passed my inhibitions I may send you some of my drawings. 🙂

I remember, when I was at school, we said among students that no matter the school, a passionate student will always find a way. I believe that even though you come from a small college they will give you essential keys of creativity, and project. From there you will need to provide 90% of the work.
I do recommend you to surround yourself with motivated students with whom you will progress and cheer up together – and even debate about design. You will create even more opportunities to improve.
How to be a good designer is a very wide question as a designer gather quite a good number of skills. He doesn’t have to be perfect for all. The most important thing is to me about being curious, keeping that hunger of curiosity. Anybody who is curious, ask question – and sometime find answers that nobody though about. That’s how you will find innovative solution that will improve people daily life.
A designer will face a lot of people who do not believe in him or his project for x-reason. Proposing innovative ideas is not intuitive. So a good designer also need to work on how to convince other people, department (marketing, engineering…), clients to follow and support him. You will need courage to challenge yourself, stick to your position or convince people with humility.
Design sketching will definitely help you to be more creative and communicate with more confidence !
