Introduction
Let me introduce you to Rigo, a translator from Cuba whose story beautifully illustrates how creativity can be rekindled at any stage of life.
Like many of us, Rigo was once a keen sketcher as a student, but as the years passed and life got busier, drawing faded into a distant childhood memory. That changed when he found himself with more spare time and a renewed desire to reconnect with his artistic side.
Rediscovering Drawing: Rigo’s Story from Cuba
Hi, my name is Rigo, and I’m from Cuba.
I’m a translator and a member of the Sketch Like The Pros course. You could say I’m the classic example of someone who was good at drawing as a student but drifted away from it as life got busier.
Drawing became a forgotten childhood hobby.
Last year, I found myself with more spare time and returned to drawing.
Around the same time, I discovered the Design Sketchbook blog and was immediately attracted by the tips shared by Chou-Tac. When I learned about Sketch Like The Pros, I didn’t hesitate to join.
Why Sketch Like The Pros Stands Out from Other Tutorials and Books
When developing a skill, many people, including myself, tend to download lots of tutorials, buy books, and watch high-speed videos. But in my experience, these fast tutorials often make you lose the natural flow of the learning process.
Books, no matter how good, can leave you confused when you try to connect the dots between steps.
What I love most about Sketch Like The Pros is the pace of the videos.
The lessons are delivered at a comfortable speed, allowing you to learn step-by-step and build a very solid foundation.
As the difficulty increases,
Chou-Tac focuses on the do’s and don’ts, helping you understand exactly what you’re doing right and what needs improvement.
The Course Structure: Learn, Absorb, and Practice
- Videos are released weekly in small, digestible segments.
- This pacing gives you enough time to absorb the knowledge and practice before moving on.
- You can download all the videos to revisit whenever you want.
- The course avoids pressure and instead motivates you to keep progressing naturally.
The Personal Touch: Chou-Tac’s Encouraging Teaching Style
Chou-Tac is very articulate, easygoing, and encouraging.
He makes you feel that your goals are achievable.
More than an instructor, he feels like a close friend who supports you throughout your journey.
Applying Sketching Beyond Design: A Translator’s Perspective
Though I work as a translator, I’ve found that the skills I’m learning in Sketch Like The Pros help me express ideas more attractively, even outside traditional design fields.
My family and friends have noticed my improvement and have even encouraged me to explore illustration or manga art.
Growing Confidence and Creativity
Even as an introvert, this course has helped me step out of my comfort zone.
I’m now more expressive and experimental in my sketches, trying things I wouldn’t have dared to do before joining.
Final Thoughts: Grateful to Be Part of This Community
All I can say is thank you very much, Chou-Tac. I’m very happy to be part of this community.
To anyone considering it: this course offers a motivating, structured, and supportive way to rediscover or develop your sketching skills.
Cheers, everybody, and stay safe!
