I’m happy to introduce Jun, an industrial design student who joined Sketch Like The Pros to finally learn sketching the right way.
Despite her studies, Jun struggled to sketch without references and found that books and online demos weren’t enough. What helped her most was my step-by-step focus on the basics and real product observation.

My Struggles with Learning Sketching
Hello everyone,
my name is Jun, I’m a student in the course SKETCH LIKE THE PROS.
Although I majored in Industrial Design,
I didn’t get a chance to learn sketching systemically.
But I am always looking for ways to improve my sketching skills.
Early Attempts: Books and Online Demos
I searched for sketching demos online.
And bought quite a few sketching tutorial books.
But I just stared at those wonderful pictures and tried to duplicate them.
It seemed effective at first. But soon I realized, I still don’t know how to sketch.
Without reference pictures, the things I’m drawing are terrible.
Discovering Chou-Tac’s Unique Teaching Approach and Structure Teaching
When I saw Chou-Tac’s sketching tutorials online,
I thought it was so different from the demos I saw before.
He would explain the techniques he is using in detail,
And focus on only one point each time.
So it’s easy to follow along and practice.
Realizing the Importance of Basics
At first, I always wanted to create something awesome.
But it’s the basic knowledge and skills that matter the most.
If I draw a picture, with all the colors and shades, but the perspective is wrong, it wouldn’t be so persuasive.
Learning to Observe and Understand Products
In this course,
Chou-Tac is not only talking about how to draw things,
But also how to observe the products in real life.
And he will point out the mistakes I’m making. Otherwise, I wouldn’t realize it myself.
