Do you draw and hold your pen the right way?

We was drawing at Garden by the Bay, in Singapore. I took a picture of my friend drawing. It was the first I saw someone holding the pen that way (picture below). So I tried. My movement became clearly limited. Maybe I was just not used to it ?! I ask her to hold the pen how I usually recommend (Position A below). She tried and she was surprised that she could suddenly gain more agility.  She has an opportunity to improve by just readjusting her pen grip. I invite you to look at how yourself...

Learn better by better enjoying the present

A TIP I recommend especially for beginners who have difficulties to start – who try to draw, but can’t find any satisfaction at the moment. Instead of focusing on getting “ambitious” result, and get frustrated, I recommend to focus on getting pleasure at drawing. That’s how you will gain motivation and progress making your first baby steps. You may fall down often, but stand up as many times as needed till you can walk. One way to enjoy and motivate oneself at drawing is to...

How to get a symmetrical sketch in perspective? Use the “Middle line”

For a “symmetrical sketch”: The middle line is essential to any designer. Mother nature made most of the things on earth and outer space symmetrical. Humans naturally create objects mostly symmetrical as well. You may want to draw a spaceship, a razor, a lamp, a car, a fashion model…anything symmetrical, use the Middle line. It’s mostly applicable for the front view, and it becomes even more interesting from a perspective view. See an example on this short video I extracted from the...
