The Ergotron arm installed on my desk to support my Wacom Cintiq 22HD
Today, I am super excited as one of my dream has been realized. As a user of the Wacom Cintiq 22HD, I did myself a little present: The Ergotron arm! If you are also a Wacom Cintiq user, I think you are gonna love it!
What is Ergotron about?
-
- The Ergotron is an LCD monitor arm that suspends and supports your Wacom tablet in any position.
- I can draw on it putting the tablet on my lap or even drawing standing up!
- Despite the weight, you will be able to manipulate it very easily!
- Most important, it totally frees my sketching space! I just need to put it in a vertical position like any second screen.
My sketching desk is a tiny Ikea table where my Wacom Cintiq 22″ occupies 3/4 of its surface. There are no much space left for drawing on paper.
The Wacom 22″ is so huge I even decided to put it back to the cupboard and use the smaller tablet Cintiq 13HD. : /
With my friend Adrien Wira who is a designer at Adidas, we drool for years at the idea of getting an Ergotron arm.
We thought we might need a strong table to support a suspended Cintiq of several kgs, so we didn’t dare to order one.
But I was sad looking at my Cintiq sleeping in its box, so I decided to finally make a try with the Ergotron arm! I searched on Amazon and order one.
Let’s unpack the box together!

The Ergotron arm arrived. Time to open the box!

I can hear my heartbeat already 😛

I find some papers giving the instructions and some help for advanced installation

Everything is well protected and well packed

The arm is made of mainly 3 components with advanced articulated joints

I removed the huge pod of my Cintiq

I want to attach the arm but I need to remove the circular plastic piece that surrounds the cables

With a screwdriver, I remove the piece easily (The screwdriver is not included in the package)

There are below 4 extra empty holes that will attach to the Ergotron arm

Let’s fix it with only 4 screws.

I assemble then the 3 components of the arm

There are 3 tiny screws for adjusting the smoothness/hardness of the joints. 1 screw per joint. Heavier your tablet is, tighter you need to screw it.

The Ergotron arm is fixed on the border of the table.

The cables go along the arm. Make sure to allow enough lengths to the cable for free movement in any direction.

I can draw with the tablet coming to my lap

At any position, the Cintiq is well supported enough to draw in it

If I am not sketching, the screen can be positioned vertically as a regular 2nd monitor. I get my free space back on my desk.
That’s it!! I am so happy to get one. I will continue preparing free and quality content for you guys on the blog! 🙂
Today, I can tell it’s the perfect set up for any Cintiq user. If you also decide to get one, let me know and send me a picture of your desk configuration, it will be fun! :).
