Lucas Hippolyte (15yo) – 3 months progression with [Sketch Like The Pros] course

I am preparing the reopening of
the registration of Sketch Like The Pros design course.

To help you build your motivation and self-confidence,
I want to show you that anyone who start as a true-beginner can succeed.
No matter your age and initial skill. Lucas is a great example (See more below).

Remember, if you want to progress,
you CAN’T practice blindly everyday.

There is 2 ingredients to the “Recipe of success”.

You need:

  • Clear methods starting from the real basics
  • And Good focus

How Lucas made exponantial progress

Let me share with you more about Lucas story
and great results with Sketch Like The Pros.

– Lucas’ story and testimonial about the course Sketch like the Pros.

Lucas looked for the past 3 years without success
information about How to learn sketching.

He finally started to make significant progress
with The Design Sketchbook’s blog tutorial.

After joining Sketch Like The Pros course,
he made an exponantial jump of progress. 🙂

Note that Sketch Like The Pros design course registration will reopen for few days only! Stay tuned! I will give you all the details by email.

Make sure you register to the waiting list to get all the informations needed on time.

Lucas is the youngest and one of the most determined member.

He keeps improving along the weeks going through the lessons and exercises delivered.

Sketch Like The Pros is a 10-month course.
Lucas Hippolyte has already sent me few pictures he made –
that make a huge contrast with 3 months earlier when he just started.

He made a big step in his progress.

Of course, it is not yet stabilised
he will need to keep going and carry on exploring
to integrate his new techniques and discoveries.

I love this feel when you look at your sketch,
and realise you’ve just leveled up.

You surprise yourself like you got a new super power! Haha.

But it’s not the time to rest on its laurels !
Lucas took his first big improvement
as a motivation boost to challenge the next big thing.

There is still so many great techniques to learn ! Smile
Lucas is taking this path.

Lucas lines or not shy neither hesitant anymore. They are fluid and expressive.

Flashback: 3 months ago

When Lucas just started the course. He kept sketching and filled more than 100 pages of ellipses, straight lines, circles… within the first month.

We go through all of them so he could fix his mistakes on the spot. To communicate and for me to give him my 1-to-1 personal feedback, we use the communication software for designers: SKETCHDRIVE. (Thank you Martijn and Marten, founder of Sketchdrive!)

Lucas first sketches below:

First practice of circles, a fundamental movement to master. As I said, Lucas started like any beginner.

A nice printer, but still looks a bit “childish”

3 months after

Lucas just started to to reach the next level. Smile

His previous clumsy circles become now nice cylinders in perspective.

The lines are more gentle, and have a Professional sketching approcah: Lucas draws using a full range of pen pressure sensitivity.

Random 3D volume

Below a method of “Random creativity”
where you draw random lines,
then add some contour lines to create 3D volumes.

I recommended to use reference pictures to get inspired from.
For this exercise, there is no copy/paste of the full product,
we like to import and mix details to create new things.

With fluid lines you can draw faster and make a lot of new 3D form research in no time.

On this picture below,
Lucas get inspired from the sketch I made in the video tutorial.
He fed his memory of forms and throw his lines with a great dynamic.

It is definitely encouraging
and I am pretty happy to see
his involvement is giving him
results and confidence.

The line are now fluid and expressive. We can feel the confidence and precision.

What Lucas should do next ?

Keep exploring and fail as many time as he can.
So he will continue to build his thick skin and grow his skills.

Congrats Lucas. Keep going !

    Hi Chou-Tac,

I have been looking over your course ‘sketch like a pro 4th edition’ and it looks like it could be exactly what I’m after.
Could I ask what material you need? I.e tablet, any 3D software etc.
Also, in regards to the self paced learning option, are the tutorials, videos and resources all available for life?

    Thank you for your time.

      Hello Drew,

      How are you doing ?
The only material you need is a ball point pen, and A4 or A3 (recommended) paper.
For the ball point pen, wait for joining the course first before getting any. I will give you techniques to identify which one is good for you – depending if you have a heavy wrist or not.

Then for paper, I have a personal preference for laser printer paper. DOUBLE A brand 80g are cool !! The surface is super smooth.

For softwares and tablet, they are welcome. As long as the ball point pen is your core training, at least for the first modules.

For software I do recommend Sketchbook Pro. (many designers love it, me included), Mischief is nice also (many artists / Illustrator love it !)

You can study at your own pace. You can download all the videos to ca

And yes, you will have a lifetime access to the course as well.

I hope I did answer your questions.
